Urban Room Micro-residency: R&D

Following on from the [per]FORM Open Rehearsal in June 2018, the School of Architecture partnered with Jelly, a local visual arts organisation, and hosted a series of micro-residencies in the Urban Room, a structure built by Year 2, undergraduate students. Seven, local artists were invited to take over the Urban Room in a two-day residency that explored their practice in relation to the significance of place to the feeling of community and belonging. Reside Dance C.I.C. were one of the seven artists chosen.
Our residency from 28th – 29th May 2019, Communitas and Place: A Celebration of the Transient, questioned if a transient place could be celebrated. Often places that are considered transient are perceived as unhomely, unsettling and lacking identity and a sense of community. During the residency, we designed and facilitated the Urban Room so that visitors could find their own togetherness and celebration of this transient place.
To get a flavour of this residency, please watch from 11:38 – 17: 13 mins of the following film edited by Yvonne Newton.
