Home at The MERL

Reside Dance C.I.C. performed Home at The Museum of English Rural Life, Reading on 25th November 2017. The performance project invited individuals and communities who had a personal connection to migration to take part in two workshops and perform Reside Dance. The promenade performance recalled and shared memories of migration and resettlement in order to investigate whether it was possible to build connections and develop a sense of home within the museum. No previous dance experience was necessary and audience members joined Reside Dance and the participants in a journey through the museum.
The performance received outstanding feedback from the audience. All audience members felt some kind of connection to each other and/ or the museum. Results showed that a sense of home (belonging, community, familiarity, warmth and/ or comfort) can be created in the museum.
