Pilot Youth Provision Workshops: Whitley Wood

Mini Streetz and Urban Crew Workshops

In partnership with Berkshire Youth and Reading Borough Council, Reside Dance C.I.C. delivered two, free Mini Streetz (5 – 11 years) and Urban Crew (12 – 15 years) at Whitley Wood Community Centre on 10th and 13th August 2018 that aimed to bring local children and young people together to form new, positive friendships.
Each workshop included a physical warm up, an ice breaker exercise, the learning of a basic Street Dance phrase including The Floss, a small group creative activity encouraging self-expression, understanding & acceptance and a cool down. All workshops were led by experienced Dance Artist, Sam Gilroy, who created a fun and friendly environment for children and young people to enjoy. All abilities were welcomed and catered for including those with no previous Street Dance experience to those with more. Children and young people could attend twice to workshops catering for their age.
Further funding is being sought to continue these workshops during August 2019 in partnership with Reading Voluntary Action. These workshop programmes aim to help address youth provision needs in South, Central and West Reading.
